Welcome Resee to Foster Mom Pats.

Resee's prior foster mom is not currently fostering dogs so Resee has joined foster mom Pat's pack.  Her prior foster mom had some wonderful blog posts about her so I have copied them here.  I hear she has grown a lot since these pictures were taken and we hope to get some new ones soon.

1)  A man came to the shelter yesterday with 5 puppies and surrendered four of them. He walked out with this little girl in his arms.  Norean, my friend who helps with transports, was in the parking lot dropping off crates and saw the man with the puppy. The man told her he couldn't leave this puppy because he knew it would be "put down".  Norean offered to take it and get her seen by a vet.  The deformity is a left front double leg which is about half the length of the others.  The condition is nicknamed "lobster claw".  It will likely be amputated.  Fluffy Dog Rescue will be taking this little girl in.  UPDATE:  Her leg was amputated by a vet in Alabama.  She is recuperating and will be traveling to Wisconsin the third week of April.

2) These are pictures of Resee recovering in her temporary foster home in Alabama. She will be visiting the vet again before she takes her journey to Wisconsin. Fluffy Dog rescue has had many three legged dogs and they adjust wonderfully. With Resee being so young, she should do very well. I am so happy so say, the rescue has had great success in adoptions of three legged dogs. I am confident there is a forever home for Resee. Resee will be joining the gang at Grandma June's when she arrives......lucky girl.

3) When I woke up this morning, I discovered someone had switched puppies on me in the middle of the night. Instead of the ball of energy that had walked in my front door yesterday, there was this cuddly little girl who just wanted to be petted and sleep. It occurred to me that after having her surgery a couple weeks ago, Resee probably hasn't had much of an opportunity to romp and play - and that is exactly what she did until 10:00 last night. This morning it caught up with her!
The resilience of dogs amazes me tho, and by noon she was up and running. I can't get over how resourceful she is. She will want to do something, try it unsuccessfully, then sits and cocks her head and thinks about it. The second try is usually quite successful. An example is getting off the couch - first time, smack on her nose, didn't feel too good. The next time she attempted it, she extended her one front leg to the floor, balanced on it and came down quite nicely. Amazing! Getting up on the couch is still a challenge - she thought she had a good plan, but it didn't quite work out. She put her one leg up, reached her nose out, and grabbed a hold of Homer trying to pull herself up. Homer was not a willing participant in this plan and let her know so in short order. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

4) Reese is an amazing study in creativity and tenaciousness. Today we mastered getting on to the couch, without using Homer. You can actually watch her think and work out a solution. She is an inspiration - that with a little thought, a lot of hard work, and a "never give up attitude", we can overcome all. What a wonderful little girl she is.

5) Reese continues to amaze me. Not only is she growing at an amazing rate, but her athletic prowess is increasing by leaps and bounds. I watched her the back yard yesterday running with Barley and RJ - she keeps up with no trouble at all. I also noticed that she is very close to being able to get up on the bed - much to RJ's dismay. That was his hiding spot when he got sick of playing - not going to be safe much longer. I can remember when she arrived and getting on the couch was a challenge, just a few short weeks ago. Now one of her favorite tricks is to stand on the back of the couch and leap off, which makes me wince, but appears to be good fun to her.
For quite a while I have looked at her and no longer saw the Beagle as the dominate breed. There may be Beagle in her, but she is definitely a bigger hound. Looking at the internet yesterday, I have decided she looks much more like a Red Bone Coon Hound. She has that beautiful red, gold color and long body. She is going to be a stunning dog. The one thing she seems to lack is the loud, loud hound voice, and she is not a barker. Having a Beagle with a mouth you can hear in the next county, I can't tell you how grateful I am for that!
